Apple talked about the next major update of iOS, iOS 6 at the WWDC 2012. The new OS will be released with a number of new features. A number of things that we required jailbreak for earlier will now be pre embedded in iOS. With improvements in every sphere, we check out some of the hottest new features in the upcomming iOS 6.

New Features in iOS 6

Maps – Maps is the biggest attraction in iOS 6. After a long run, apple has finally kicked Google Maps from the scene, and introduced its own mapping software. It has a stunning design with eye – pleasing 3D view built in. Turn by Turn direction spoken aloud  and multiple routes are other features. The routes are updated with traffic information and the fastest route is indicated. Estimated time is calculated, taking traffic and speed into account.

Siri – The other big news in iOS 6 is Siri. It has new features and will now be available to iPad users as well. More languages have been introduced Siri. However, the big change is that Siri can now open apps for your. You just need to say Open, followed by the name of the app. It can even post to twitter or facebook. It can also show you sports scores and stats. You can also do hotel bookings and find out movie showtimes. Siri can also help you find your way on maps. Facebook – Yes, finally iOS comes with facebook integration. It is integrated with many stock apps. You can share photos from the photos or camera app. You can also post your location from maps. You can brag about an high score from the Game Center. Your facebook events will also get integrated into the calendar. Your facebook friend’s profile information will be saved in your contacts. You can also like apps and songs from the app store and itunes store respectively.

passbook Passbook – It is a new app that has been introduced by apple, for iOS 6. As the name suggests, it is an e-ticketing sort of an software in which you can carry your movie or flight tickets around with you. You can now easily carry gift cards or coupons on the go, so you never need to keep searching for coupons etc.

Do Facetime over 3G

Facetime – This is something we had expected long ago. The ability to do facetime over 3G network. People found this ridiculous that they cannot face-time with people when they were out of reach of a WiFi network! Thankfully, iOS 6 brings Releif! This also does with the use of the jailbreak tweak, My3G, which allowed facetime over 3G.

Improved Phone App – The new phone app comes with more features. Whenever you receive a call and want to deny it, you can either choose to send an text message to that person, or you may also choose to get reminded later to callback.You can tell your phone when you want to be reminded. You can also set your phone on a do not disturb mode, so not incoming calls irritate you anymore.

  

A better Mail App – Get ready for an even better mail experience in the future. Apple promise a better interface for the mail app that will make reading a pleasure. An special addition is a new V.I.P. list, so mails from important persons (like your boss) are always accessible.

Safari – Apple’s veteran browser gets better. Now tabs which are open on all your devices will be available on your device via iCloud. So you can work in a more managed way. Also, you can read pages in your bookmark directory offline, because apple saves the entire website and not its links. It is also available in a full screen mode, so you can browse without any distractions.
